A Bluegrass Visit.....

We all headed to Louisville, KY this weekend for a family visit! We first met up with B's GrandDad & GrandMom! We also got to visit with Uncle Tom & Uncle Jim the same day! They were smitten with Pierce, I believe. GrandDad kept calling him Peanut, which I loved! He was such entertainment! He even fell asleep in the Jump-A-Roo! So, funny! It was great to visit and we hated that our day had to end...................

While we were in the Bluegrass State, we also got to visit Aunt Muggy in Pee Wee Valley! She was so sweet the whole time saying "Brenda, you didn't lie, he is a cute baby!" ha! Again, he was pure entertainment! We also got to see Uncle Charlie & Judy, cousin Patrick and his sweet girlfriend Whitney, Danielle and Aunt Joanie! and AGAIN, we hated for our day to come to an end....

Ok, so I had to share this, B was making me laugh so hard about ALL the stuff that we brought for a 2 night trip! This was the cart trying to leave on Sunday morning! HA!!! This is what a baby does to you.....makes you pack WAY to much! :)

After we got all that loaded in the car we headed to a part of town called the Highlands to meet Phil & Heather (who had just MOVED to Louisville, the night before) for Breakfast! It is the neatest place! Lynn's Paradise Cafe. If you are ever in the area, you MUST have breakfast or lunch or dinner there! It is a sight to see and SO MUCH to look at! Pierce was so good while we ate because there were so many artsy items around! Such as: mannequin legs on the wall with PJ pants on, lamp shades made of men's neckties, trees in the middle of the restaurant, lamps hung up side down....and MUCH more! It was awesome! and OH MY, the food, to die for!!! I had a Gorilla Coffee, it had 2 shots of espresso (mistake on my part, I didn't think I would sleep that night - ha!) and chocolate and BANANA syrup in it! DELISH! Ohhh, and in the front there is a horse that is to be made to look like a toaster and the HAND SEATS, of course P had to have his picture in them! ;) I could go on and on, but you check out the website and the pictures below.....

In High School.....the Madrigals sang this song.....and it brought back memories this weekend, of singing this song and just in general, loving the State of Kentucky....it is so green and clean and fresh! So, I posted some of the words to the song..... :)

My Old Kentucky Home

The sun shines bright in the old Kentucky home,
'Tis summer, the darkies are gay;
The corn-top's ripe and the meadow's in the bloom,
While the birds make music all the day.

The young folks roll on the little cabin floor,
All merry, all happy and bright;
By 'n' by Hard Times comes a-knocking at the door,
Then my old Kentucky home, goodnight.

Weep no more my lady
Oh! weep no more today!
We will sing one song for the old Kentucky home,
For the Old Kentucky Home far away.

He is at such a fun stage right now! I just kiss on him ALL the time!

  • Loves his Discovery Center and laughs when he pushes the button for the music!
  • Is make the "K" sound, like the K sound when you say "Kiss", it is long and drawn out, B says he is copying me, because I do that when I smile at him! and it isn't so great when he does it with a mouth full of green beans! :)
  • Is SITTING UP!
  • His hair has become blonder with each passing day and his eyes a little darker and to me looks like a little greenish.

Memorial Day Weekend Madness!

In P's words..............

I made Momma roll around on the couch with me! :)

Thursday night before the weekend REALLY got started, I assisted Momma & Daddy cutting a big limb out of our little tree in the front yard that had broken off in the BIG storm that had come through! I had to wrap up Momma said because it was CHILLY WILLY outside! :)

**********************************************************************************
I attended a buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz'in fun birthday party for Brooklyn! A Bee Party! It was bee-u-tee-ful outside and they had a Moon Bounce and I enjoyed watching the other kids slide IN & OUT 100 times! ;)

Favors from Brooklyn the Bee!

A Bee on her cake!!!

Moon Bouncing!!!

Getting ready to blow out her candle!

Blowing out her candle!!!

My very own Bee Visor!

Brooklyn got her purse I gave her! She was excited! Already swinging it around like Momma does! :)

Momma of course wanted Brooklyn and I's picture together! :)

Our conversation is our business, parents! :)

**********************************************************************************
I also monitored Momma & Daddy while they did yard work in my borrowed jumper-a-roo from Brooklyn! I was telling them what to do and when to do it! I also enjoyed watching the man across the street mow & weed eat!

***********************************************************************************
I attended my very first Memorial Day cook out/swim party @ Mr. Robert & Mrs. Melinda's house! It was so much fun watching all the kids jump in the pool and see how big they could make their splashes!!! I even watched Momma & Daddy get beat in CornHole by Mr. Eddie & Mrs. Becky! :)

and I held my first crawfish.......................... !!!!!!!!

************************************************************************************

and I'm posing all the time for Mommy, I mean, I know what the camera means these days, I start cheesing it up before she gets ready to take the picture. I mean, it makes her happy so I guess I'll still do it! She wanted me in her favorite chair that she says she might recover soon....so, I posed for her.... I mean, one day I will tell her "NO!" but right now....who cares!?
:)

So, that was my weekend update in a nutshell......whew! I'm tired!
:)
Happy Memorial Day Everyone!!!

Thankfulness....

This last Saturday (5/14/2011) we got very sad news. Mamaw had passed away. Even though you hate to let them go, you know they are in a MUCH better place. And as I keep saying, "She is up there in a corner reading when her and MeeMaw aren't visiting" Mamaw LOVED to read, and unfortunately later in life she had macular degeneration that kept her from doing what she loved to do!
A sweet sweet lady has now made her way into heaven. I miss her dearly already. But I'm so thankful to know she is happy, safe and peaceful!
I'll always remember that she made the best breakfast rice in the WORLD!, that she made me laugh telling stories about Granddaddy and that she always let us do whatever we wanted as long as we asked "our Mom or Dad" first. :)

I have just been beating myself up one side and then down the other because she never got to meet Pierce. But I know and I try to comfort myself in knowing that she is watching him everyday and getting to enjoy him just the same.
The funeral was very touching, the day had beautiful weather and seeing family that I haven't seen in years was wonderful.

I love you dearly Mamaw.

The Hospitality Committee of Ruleville Baptist Church had us a meal before the funeral! It was so incredibly nice AND delicious. It was comforting to know Mamaw had such good friends.

Mr. Gene, Daddy's long time friend....grew up with him there in Ruleville!

Cousins replicating an old picture!

Grandkids. John is way out numbered! :)
Me, John, Jamie, Traci & Heather

Mr. Duncan, Daddy & Mr. Joey. Long time friends from the plant!

Cousins on the Petrie Side:
Back Row: Billy, Marilyn, Daddy, Aunt Judy, Larry
Front Row: Aunt Janice & Beverly

Cousins on the Davis Side:
Back Row: Uncle Tommy, Aunt Susan, Daddy & Uncle Danny
Front Row: Aunt Judy, Aunt Janice & Aunt Cindy

and then them acting silly......

This built-in cabinet was just like this in Mamaw's house. I didn't realize that Marilyn had one in her house too! Fond Memories of spending the night with Mamaw & Granddaddy!

the day after the funeral....yep, that is Pierce, asleep in the swing. Don't worry, he was seat belted in!

Let ME hold it!

The past few weeks P has been grabbing for the bottle and popping it into his mouth himself when it is feeding time. This past weekend Granddaddy P was showing him how to move his hands down the bottle so he could hold it better.
Well, lo and behold this morning (at about 3am, and yes, I am writing this at 330 am, because I get a lot done between 3 and 5 am! :) ha!) he puts his hands down the bottle and he holds it!...... I mean for about 30 seconds, but you gotta start somewhere right?
;)
