Say Hello to......

Howard!
He is Elmood Cemetery's adopted cat!
and his birthday is August 28th!
The cemetery said "if you bring Howard some food, you can do a free tour"
Mom and I did that yesterday and had so much fun!
The audio tour was good, and after we finally got our bearings, we were on a roll!!!!.... somethings I just took pictures of because I liked it, not because they talked about it!

Monument depicts the heritage of the Traveler or Romani People.

 Governor Isham Green Harris

 Wade Hampton Bolton
Realistic monument depicts Bolton's actual appearance, with one shoe untied and his vest mis-buttoned.  He was killed Court Square in downtown Memphis in a family feud that took eight lives.

 Donoho Mausoleum

Alice Jesse Mitchell
Distraught young woman who murdered Frederica Ward after their failed attempt to run away together to be married

University of Tennessee Section and Myra and Fred Dreifus Section - reserved for those who donate their bodies to aid in medical research.

 Chinese Section

You can SEE through the tree!!

Robert Church.  Mid South's first African American millionaire.

Samuel and Bessie Vance Brooks
Founders of the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art

Grosvenor Family Monument
Real Estate leaders
Used as background in the movie "The Firm"

 James Lee, Jr

 John Overton
Grandson of one of the 3 founders of Memphis

Snowden Family

Jeffery Smith's Swing
Built for a young child by the superintendent of Elmwood, located near the grave of the boy's father.

 Professor Herman Frank Arnold
First man to actually write down the music for the song "Dixie"

The Chapel

The cottage originally built in 1866.
Originally the superintendent but now serves as the Cemetery's office.

Through the Chapel window!

  • We saw where Mary Berry was buried - the 1st person to be buried at Elmwood in 1853.
  • Interesting story about Alma Theede = known as Vance Ave Alma, she was accused of shooting 3 of her 6 husbands and serving time for 2.
  • Mr Edward Pembroke - Duckmaster for many years at The Peabody Hotel.
  • "Ginny" Mood - Confederate spy, who went on to act in Hollywood movies.
  • A section called No Man's Land - memorial to more than 1,500 yellow fever victims who were buried in unmarked graves
We hope that Howard's tummy is full for a few weeks, as our minds were surely full when we left!
If you are ever in the area, I think that it is a sight to see!

My Praying Mantus!

A sweet text from MJ this week from the kiddos!

"Whatcha eatin'?"
"What's on YOUR plate Momma?"

I was informed during playtime.... from Left to Right is Grandmom Tractor, Momma Tractor, Daddy Tractor and Baby Tractor!

Like that sizeage! ;)

Reid decided he wanted to sit up on Pierce's 4 Wheeler! ;)

Someone decided to not nap in his bed, but actually in his floor!  :)

Mr. Technology!  :)

We got to Party Hardy with Graham for his 2 year old Birthday!
It was a beautiful day!

Look at that sweet face!  :)

Reid LITERALLY loves to watch the washer!  He has been kind of fuss pot due to teething and for 5 minutes he was quiet and enjoyed the swish of the washer!  :)

Pierce helps me now sing The Star Spangled Banner to quiet Reid!  I asked him to do it with out me this day!
Love it!
